Abstract:

This article presents the evolution of Greek political ecology, from the creation of the first groups in the early 1980s to the collapse of the Federation of Ecological and Alternative Organisations in the early 1990s. The article aims both to fill the gap in the historiography of the Greek green movement and to facilitate the theoretical elaboration of the reasons that led to its collapse. It addresses specific problems, such as the relationships of the activists, the nature and timing of the challenges they faced, which predetermined the failure of the effort. All these - and not the ideological differences between the various tendencies - led to the collapse of the Greek Green Party.
